The Goods: 5 things I’m loving (that you might too)
One of my muses Kelly Diels uses a concept called “shine theory” where she actively promotes others. The idea is that by sharing the love and spreading the word about people, products and services she authentically supports, she lifts others while simultaneously lifting herself.
I love this idea. In July I sent a first round of this to you, and I got some great replies.
So moving forward, I’m calling this edition “The goods.”
It’s my hope that by sharing with you some of the things that are inspiring and supporting me, you’ll give them a try in your own life and experience some of the same benefits I’m receiving.
Ready? Let’s do it.
The goods: August edition
1. Waking Up’s “The Stoic Path” series, with William B. Irvine
You’ve heard me rave about Sam Harris’ Waking Up app already. I’ve recently gotten into “The Stoic Path” practice series, and was delighted to discover that I already practice some of the core concepts of stoicism without realizing it. Based on an ancient Greek school of philosophy, Stoicism teaches self-control and fortitude as a means of overcoming destructive emotions. Taking a deeper dive this practice is both surprising and illuminating, and I encourage you to dip your finger in and see what you think!
You can try a free month of the Waking Up app, or get 50% off an annual subscription. They also offer free memberships if you’re experiencing financial hardship, offering a philanthropic ‘no one turned away for lack of funds’ philosophy.
2. Anahita Anais, Integrative Mental Health + Holistic Trauma Healing Coach
Anahita is a friend I met 8 years ago, and her work has become deeply inspiring to me. The more I work with clients and educate myself on the roots of our most common issues, the more I learn that underlying trauma is at the core of much of our daily struggles. Read: when I say trauma, I mean simply from living in an oppressive, patriarchal system— then add any specific trauma you might have experienced. I’ve referred clients to her and I’m excited to continue learning from her in the future. Check out her work here.
3. Patriarchy Stress Disorder, by Valerie Rein, PhD.
Speaking of trauma, this book is incredible. Wow. I’m learning so much about myself and about pretty much every woman I know from the wisdom in it’s pages. If you’re a woman who ever thinks, what’s wrong with me?... this book is for you. The author has an abundance of free resources on her website which I recommend checking out.
4. Dandy Blend: a tasty coffee alternative without caffeine
I’ve hit the wall again with caffeine, and my body has let me know that it’s over it! (Headaches + fatigue are my symptoms.) So I’ve stocked up on Dandy Blend, a delicious powdered beverage made from dandelion and chicory root. It tastes rich, smooth and full-bodied like coffee, but without the caffeine, acidity or bitterness. I combine it with maca and reishi or lion’s mane mushroom powders, sweeten it with monk fruit, and froth up some oat milk or half and half to top it off. Hmmmmmmm so yummy….
5. Tarot Workshop for Entrepreneurs with Monica Shah
Monica was my first official business mentor who taught me the basic genius of being self-employed. I love her comical way, her intuitive wisdom, and her no-kidding approach to creating a successful business. She’s been reading tarot for some time, and after years of her die-hard fans asking her to teach a workshop on using Tarot in business, she’s finally doing it!
The workshop is called The Tarot Workshop for Entrepreneurs: How to Use the Archetypes of the Tarot to Trust Your Inner Voice, Make Better Decisions, & Grow Your Business Faster. It’s happening August 19th from 11am – 5pm EDT, and I’ll be there! Click here to check out the details and use my promo code “save100” to bring the price down even further.
6. Bonus mention: original soundscapes for online creators [my beloved Ben's new business endeavor]
Okay, if I can brag for a moment... Ben is launching a new business that I am 100% behind and want to spread the word about! If you don't know of his talents, he is a gifted singer, songwriter and multi-instrument musician. And he has started a new business where he is creating short songs, soundbites and soundscapes for online creators. Think podcasts, e-courses, videos and anything else that uses music.
If you're like me, quality music means a lot. So when you tune into a new podcast or video, if it uses crappy stock music, you get turned off pretty quickly. He created the intro + outro music for my new Courageous Communication course, and has been recording for other business owners and entrepreneurs. If you or anyone you know could use some gorgeous original music for your online content, reach out! His biz is called Bell & Branch. Contact him at bellandbranch@gmail.com.
Okay beloved Friend,
Ready, set, explore!
May these resources serve to awaken your spirit, open your heart and nourish your body.
The dog days of summer are upon us, and I wish you blessings on the cool breezes!
Hugs and harmony,
